I recently downloaded a copy of DOD4.0 and when I get to a certain point in
the game I go to choose a weapon but get the respone that "weapon cannot be
wielded". This happens regardless of the weapon chosen.
Can anyone help mm Thanks. --John Cartwright

If you are wielding either the two-handed sword or a combination of two other
weapons (the shield is considered a weapon) you must first "unwield" one of
them before wielding another weapon. <Baldy>

My friend and I made it all the way through, and never were able to throw any
potions. I'm not sure why I would want to, either. In Rogue (the original
Unix game that inspired DofD) it is often useful to weild a wand of striking,
but DofD doesn't appear to allow that, either. I think the difference is that
in rogue, you were sometimes allowed to specify objects that were not listed
as choices for the operation, so realizing that weilding the striking wand is
most of the puzzle. In DofD, since everything is done by choosing from a
menu, it would be too obvious that you are allowed to weild wands or throw
potions, so he didn't bother making them useful.

Just one spoiler, please! Do the wishes do anything? Besides wasting your
time typing? s

A COUPLE OF THINGS: THE WISHES ARE VALUABLE IF YOU USE THEM CORRECTLY. YOU
MIGHT WANT TO WISH FOR POTION, ETC. WHICH WILL INCREASE YOUR STRENGTH,
CONSTITUTION, OR DEXTERITY, OR EVEN YOUR INTELLIGENCE OR WISDOM. YOUR FIGHTERS
OKNIGHTS, WITH MORE MENTAL CAPACITIES CAN HANDLE WAND BETTER. I REREAD THE
MESSAGE ABOUT WIELDING THE WEAPONS. NOT ONLY CAN YOU ONLY WIELD ONE WEAPON AT
A TIME, BUT IF YOU WIELD A CURSED WEAPON, YOU ARE STUCK WITH IT, WHICH WILL
ALSO KEEP YOU FROM WIELDING. WHAT YOU MIGHT WANT TO DO, (THE IDEA WORKS WITH
POTIONS ALSO) IS TO SAVE THE GAME WIELD THE WEAPON, THEN SEE IF YOU CAN REMOVE
IT. WITH POTIONS YOU CAN FIND THE VALUABLE ONES, THEN DROP THE BAD ONES.JUST
KEEP NOTES AND CONTINUE THE SAME GAME. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON THE
GEMS? THEY HAVEN'T BEEN TOO MUCH USE TO ME. MOST RINGS CAN BE A DRAG ALSO
THOUGH IF YOU ARE STRONG ENOUGH, IT'S A GREAT WAY TO GET SOME EXPERIENCE
IWHILE YOU SAVE ON FOOD. JUST STAY IN ONE PLACE AND LET THEM COME TO YOU.
EXACTLY WHAT WILL A REGENERATION RING DO?

To M. P. Allen: Sure you can wield more than one weapon at a time. You've got
two hands, and most weapons only use one. Question: Would anyone care to tell
me the use of Words on a Scroll, or the Life Potion?

okay dofd fans-can anyone tell me this? when does the game end. I mean I've
been down to the very bottom several times, built a wel-neigh invincible
character and returned figuring I'd just step out the top only to be told the
orb still won't let me go. WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO? WHO DO I HAVE TO SLAY?! I
even made it down there and zapped that thing in the middle with digging
wands. nothing. great game--poor finish. Observations?

I am now just on level 7 .. are there 40 of these suckers? Also I notice that
some of you "build" characters ... the only way I find to build someone is to
find objects and so far, only Consitution and Charisma. More to follow? Oh
yes... after experiencing the "Elevn Cloak" does the sting of the scorpion do
much...hard to avoid. Thanks in advance for the help Sparks

you mean print the help file on the DD? If so, the only way I know is the old
